I’m a great kids photographer (sike)

So in my attempt to start building my kids portfolio I called up my sis-in-law, Marla, and asked if she could bring Jonah to me for a few fun ideas that I had. Well since I’m so used to working with hardy adults and seniors who will brave any weather for a good shot, I learned my first lesson in my children’s photography journey.

Lesson #1- Reschedule if the windchill is in the 20’s.

Lesson learned. We rescheduled the session after these funny photos…

February 14, 2010 - 6:58 pm Katie Mathews - Kids are definitely a different ball game! haha These are cute anyway though :) Your last post totally inspired me. I've only done a few weddings, but keep feeling like I have to like them or have to do them....but I've really been leaning towards just accepting a couple a year. After your post...I'm almost 99% positive I'm just going to not do weddings at all. I don't like them. They don't make me as happy and excited as shooting newborns and kiddos. I loove doing that! So anyway...just wanted to say thanks for being so honest and following your heart :)

February 14, 2010 - 7:20 pm David - Or maybe you just need to pay your models in cookies and candy now.

February 14, 2010 - 8:55 pm ashley rodgers - Yea, always carry a nice supply of candy for bribing. ;) And I will volunteer my kids for you to "practice" on anytime. :)

February 15, 2010 - 12:06 am Megan - hahaha! I love it! He is a trooper at least for those shots! For pics of the ring bearer at our wedding we taped $5 to where he was supposed to stand and when the ceremony was over he could have it :0) I think the cookies and candy is a little cheaper though. GOOD LUCK!!

February 15, 2010 - 6:56 am Leslie Harris - too funny:)

February 15, 2010 - 7:18 am Jackie P - that last one is hilarious! I love to start the day off with a laugh.

February 15, 2010 - 9:52 am Jenny Beck - haha, I'm so excited to see you're already diving into children's photography! It's a whole new ball game! You can do it!

February 16, 2010 - 2:30 pm Becky - You can do it!!! :) Here's this lady that i really like to keep up with her blog! http://www.jbowerphoto.com/blog/

February 16, 2010 - 2:48 pm Robyn Lee - Kids definitely call for a lot more patience, but the end result is so cute! The pics made me laugh... I know he was probably uncomfortable and least he hung in there for a little bit.

February 17, 2010 - 7:55 am erica Sledge - Agree with all comments above! Children MUST be comfy or it's a no-go! I applaud you for doing something out of your element. You're going to be fantastic! These pics are precious. One tip: buy The Art of Children's Portrait Photography by Tamara Lackey. It's $23 on Amazon. She also has a DVD (available on her website) that is pure gold...and the price shows it...but, worth every penny. I've seen crazy improvement since studying her works. Still not where I wanna be, but getting there! You're a rad girl, Lauren!

February 17, 2010 - 10:59 am Andrea - ha ha! So funny! I can not wait to see all of the new fabulous children/family pictures you will be posting. It was a blessing finally getting to meet you at the FTL workshop. :)
