Wrapping up Bend

The last night while I was in Bend, Oregon I was working hard on the Bend movie and wasn’t able to edit any photos to blog. So now that I’m still catching up from my tireless travels from September I am going to post the final pictures from the trip…

This is on top of a volcano. How cool is that?

The view from under Shannon.

My hand picked lava rock.

Kelly Moore and I.

Benham Falls.
We went to the Farmer’s Market on our last day and we all took pictures of each other. All I had was the 24mm and some really good light. All of these are shot with the 24mm at 1.6ish.

Megan Stanley, Blogstalker of the month!

How they found my blog: My husband Mark and I found Lauren two years ago when we were looking for wedding photographers. I had looked at so many different photographers’ work and was about to settle for someone whom we had both somewhat agreed on, only to find that this person was booked on our day. A friend, whose daughter danced at my mom’s studio, told us about Lauren. As soon as we saw her work, we knew we had to have her. I LOVE our wedding photos and everyone else’s who I view on her blog! You are amazing and one of a kind, Lauren!

5 Random things about Megan

1. Mark and I have a monster cat named Sophie. She is the meanest and sweetest cat I have ever had. We love her like she is our child, and we wonder how we ever lived our lives without her.

2. I am a dance teacher and a high school varsity dance team coach. I LOVE what I do, and I’m thankful to my mother for teaching me everything I know (she’s a dance teacher too).

3. We moved from Texas to Ann Arbor, Michigan a year ago. It was the first time either of us really left home (ha), and we are having the time of our lives! We miss our family, but Michigan has been so good to us, despite the -10 degree winter weather! We want to live lots of different places, and this has been a great first “new” place to live.

4. I wish I could have a million different occupations in one lifetime. I’d like to be a baby zoo animal keeper, cosmetologist, Broadway dancer, production designer, pet shelter worker/volunteer, missionary, writer, teacher, professor, to only mention a few :) .

5. We name our cars and electronics. Totally weird and cheesy, but it’s just us! The car is Judy, TVs are Sven and Carl, bikes are Elliot and Eleanor, computers are Rainy and Percy…and the embarrassing list goes on…

Luke and Catherine

During our drive to Boling, Texas for Catherine’s e-session it rained and poured the entire hour it took us to get there, but then we prayed… and it stopped right as we pulled into their house. Catherine and Luke are such a cool couple, we really got along well! They are cattle ranchers and it made me want one of their rhino-camel looking cows! Their land was beautiful and had the largest Oak tree I’ve ever seen before! It was so huge that the heavy branches made a canopy around it.

UNO (the secret project)

unoforbloga

UNO is my secret project. Launching it mid November.

Sign up here to be the first to know about it!

It will be super exciting and will be a great tool if you are just beginning photography all the way to intermediate photographers (not to mention anyone wanting to make their photos look better)! More to come in November.

Debra and Chris

Debra and Chris are the nicest, most relaxed couple that I’ve had in a long while. It rained… no, it poured for a few hours on their wedding day and Debra was just as happy as could be. Luckily the rain held off during the outdoor formals and only came down when the ceremony was supposed to start. They moved the ceremony inside the reception tent right on time. Another great wedding at the Spirit Ranch. They also had the coolest thing ever at their reception… the most talented balloon artists I’ve ever seen. Chris has an old corvette and they made one for him out of balloons! Here is their website.

Piece of the American Dream

I have some really exciting news.

This isn’t my secret project (no that will come very soon though), but rather another life changing decision.

So let me tell you a little bit of the background story…

We have been feeling a little detached to Lubbock lately and have wondered why. So as anyone who gets anxious for change we started looking at our options and discovered www.landsof(name your state).com and started searching for our perfect dream property. It was just something to fill our nights with a few months back, and then it hit me. Why don’t we buy land somewhere? If we could move anywhere, where would we want to move? Our answer will make some of you laugh, we chose Stillwater, Oklahoma. Where Josh grew up. Stillwater is home of Oklahoma State, where my brother went to college and met his wife, and the town where Josh and I first met when I was a sophomore in high school.

We did it, we are closing on 20 peaceful, fully wooded acres about 15 minutes outside of Stillwater in November.

My heart has been aching to live the farm life for about 10 years now and I am finally going after my dream. I want to have chickens, goats, mini donkeys, horses, gardens, ponds, rivers and TREES! The land is bare with no man made pipes or roads, so we (we… meaning Josh) will have a lifelong project on our hands of creating something from nothing. Isn’t this what man was made to do in the Garden of Eden, to till the ground and work it? We will sell our house in the spring and find a rent house in Stillwater to live in until we can build on the land. My horse, Rev, will move up there with us and Josh will make a good horse stall for him. It will be my paradise, my piece of the American Dream.

So what about my business? It will go about like normal. We will try to book more weddings in the Oklahoma region, but if not then we will travel to Texas each weekend.

For the remainder of 2010 there will be no travel fees for Lubbock or Oklahoma weddings. We will pay them as our effort to make this transition easier.

Are you living your dream?

The Kelly Moore, need I say anything else?

One of my best friends, Kelly Moore Clark (yes, people have asked if we were sisters, and no we aren’t:) has finally decided to share her invention with us!

The Kelly Moore Bag.

Is it a camera bag? or a purse? Or both?

W O W.

All I can say is I’m stealing it from her when I arrive in Bend, Oregon on Monday morning. Yep, first thing. I doubt it will go on my record, but I will steal it nevertheless.

Read more about it on her blog. Heck, might as well sign up to be the first to know. Because I know I am! I’m pulling for a laser red Dolce&Gabanna lookalike!

Last vacation of the season

I had a session tonight, and then represented at the Hope For Honduras booth at the Art trail.

Tomorrow I have Race for the Cure with my sis-in-laws, and a wedding at Spirit Ranch.

Sunday I fly away to Bend, Oregon the most beautiful land in America!

I will be back next Sunday after I fly to Houston to shoot a wedding and an engagement. I’ll have tons to blog then. Until then just imagine the beauty I’ll bring back from the amazing state of Oregon.

Since we didn’t travel too much this year for weddings I guess I thought I had to make up for it this last 4 weeks. I have been to Dallas, Grandma’s farm, Seattle and now Oregon all in a month! I’m glad life will be back to normal with weddings every weekend and Christmas season coming soon. I’m getting closer and closer to announcing my secret project(product) that will really benefit photographers!
